New Board of young JN Circle UK leaders step up to support their community

A new cohort of young leaders for JN Circle UK were unveiled at community event in Brixton recently.

The new JN Circle UK Board for 2024/2025 comprises five young professionals who have committed to working with the JN Group to ‘build community’ through the JN Circle UK programme.

The Board includes:

  • Dee Miller – Founder, Consultant & Author, SIEGE
  • Tracy Durrant – Founder and Managing Director of Everyone’s A Singer CIC (Community Interest Company)
  • Symone Bernard – Project Manager for a Not-for-Profit organisation advocating STEM for Children and Young people
  • Wini Boansi  –  People Operations Administrator, for a charity and Content Creator
  • Nathanael Watson –  Head of Music (Secondary Education) and School Governor

The event was aimed at young persons in London to announce the new theme for the 2024/25 Circle programme and also to gain insights from guests on what issues were important to them.

The new theme chosen by the Board was ‘Investing in our legacy’  – which will look to focus on building a strong foundation that empowers future generations to succeed, make meaningful contributions to society, and actively focus on engaging in preserving, promoting, and evolving cultural identity.

JN Circle UK Board member Tracy Durrant said: “Our theme, Investing in our legacy’ is about seeing beyond today and focusing on what we need to invest in to secure a vibrant future for our communities across the diaspora. It was great hearing fresh perspectives during our round table discussions at our youth focused event. I am looking forward to collaborating with the Board and the wider JN network to turn our shared ideas into a lasting legacy“.

The JN Circle UK programme was initially launched in 2022 and has, over the last two years, delivered a number of initiatives to help the community, including delivering financial literacy workshops in schools, hosting cultural events, and launching a community fund for young entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the event in Brixton, Horace Hines, General Manager of JN Money Services and Executive Sponsor for the JN Circle UK programme said:  “The JN Circle UK initiative is a great programme for young people to connect and support each other.  JN Money has proudly served the Caribbean community in the UK for the past 36 years, and we are committed to ensuring the next generation is equipped with opportunities to support their goals and ambitions”.

JN Circle UK Board Member Wini Boansi said: JN Circle is a great way to strengthen our communities in the diaspora and help young people stay connected to their roots. As a British-Ghanaian who feels at home in Caribbean spaces and in Jamaica, I believe in the power of unity. I joined JN Circle to connect, learn, collaborate, and help build a strong legacy for our communities.

JN Circle was launched in Jamaica in 2019 and is presently led by the philanthropic arm of the JN Group, the JN Foundation.  Built on the concept of mutuality, the JN Foundation gives back to communities in Jamaica and across the Jamaican Diaspora by providing financial and technical support to sustain a variety of projects and programmes. There are 16 JN Circle chapters in Jamaica, one in Canada and one in the UK.
